One of the best things about being in relationship is that it is giving you plenty of moments to feel that you own the world. Having a partner is always fun, although we have some alone time where we wish to just calm down and relax and chill for a certain amount of time.
One of the best decision i have made in my life, is to say yes to be with someone for the rest of my life at such a young age.
Recently and after a long time, Zig and I decided to go for long weekend away.
We do have so many destinations in mind, but as both of us have never been in Amsterdam, Netherlands, we decided to jump on a plane and have a nice few days together, away from work and life responsibility.
To start with, it was a great choice and it was one of the best weekend i have ever had.
First of all we started by booking our tickets. We decided to make a budget and not exceed it therefore we went on E-dreams, which most likely to be the website where we book almost all of our flight from. We booked four days from a Saturday morning to a Tuesday night. The reason for that, was to be able to enjoy the four full days which was incredible.
Then we did look for a hotel, again on a budget, but nice and comfortable. Luckily, one of the first listed hotel was HOTEL TO STAY. It is a simple, renovated building, where you can have different type of mini-apartments. The place was magnificent, comfortable and the staff where so friendly. This place was close to public transport, 2 miles away from the city center.
First day, was simple but nice, we first had breakfast in one of the restaurants then we took a long walk around the city. The national monument, the royal palace, the different marijuana shops where you learn more about the history of the country. One of the most exciting and amazing things about the city is the canals that run through it all. The water that mirrors the building, a whole culture running through this water.
For sure four days aren't enough to visit all the monuments, museums and the palaces of this amazing place but we visited the most famous areas. So here are the places we visited.
-The red light district: Which wasn't a very pleasant area to visit for someone like me, but it was worth the try.
-Madame Tussaud: Which was incredible!! I didn't expect it to be like that, but it was a very good surprise. We spent a long three hours, going through all the celebs and enjoying every single details of these status.
-The IceBar: Visiting the IceBar is one of the first things we wanted to do once we get to Amsterdam. It was a very nice but freezing twenty mins. -10 C was a different and new feeling for me and made me feel that 3 C outside are actually really warm. For those that have non alcoholic drinks like us, orange juice will only last 4 min and outside in the main bar you can have nice alcohol free cocktails.
-The Bulldog: As in Amsterdam, coffee shop aren't allowed to sell alcohol, but the Bulldog does, was very weird for me. So it was on my list as well as my husband's, to discover how this place could bend the law. But it was funny to discover that the place that serves alcohol drinks is quite seperated from the little coffee shop that belongs to it. So you actually, buy your mix as they call it and then enter to the bar. Well i loved the fact that there was signs everywhere saying : "{Smoking is forbidden get your own mix at the bar instead}".
-Vondelpark: That was Heaven. I can't say anything else about it. We were lucky to have a sunny day and we really enjoyed holding hands and walking around.
-Van Gogh museum: Well we visited the place but we didn't go in, as we thought we wouldn't really enjoy it as we are not into arts. But the place was fantastic it is surrounded by :
-Museuplain park/Stedelijk museum/Diamant museum...
-I Amsterdam Sign: It was nice experience where Zig and I decided to climb it and get nice shots which we couldn't really as much as busy the place was and the rainy weather, that's why we went back the next day and tried again.
-Rijkmuseum: FANTANSTIC, PHENOMENOL. The music, the museum, the people... I loved it.
Not forgetting the cheese factories and shops which are all over the city.
And ......... The Holland FRIES.
It was a very nice little holiday, it did help us to get out of the routine and have our free time with free soul, away from the life rhythm and it get us closer and closer to each others. Until next time Amsterdam ...
